Getting VSS Errors 11 and 12292 when running remote backup.

Not applicable

I have a recently aquried client that is running an old BENT 12.0.
When they backup their SBS 2003 Sp2 server using a remote agent, they are getting a lot of VSS errors in the event log.

I have tried to reregister all VSS dll's but no go.
Any help on this?

The server is their only DC (Small Business Server) and they are running production on this 20 hours a day, so downtime is not easy to come by.
And as they also run Exchange 2003 on this server, I would prefer not to be told to reinstall SP or something like that as their Exchange is aprox. 90 GB!

These errors can be caused by the Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider Service being disabled or unable to start. However, the source of this issue can also be caused by a lack of permissions to start the service.
Possible Solutions ( Even if backup using NTbackup fails :(
1. Error events are generated when you try to perform a system state backup on a Windows Server 2003-based computer
 2. Install the VSS Roll up package from Microsoft
NOTE - Both these solutions need a reboot of the server
If the above listed  solutions do not resolve the issue , please contact Microsoft
