Hi All,

I have a HP LTO 1 in a INTEL SC5300R rack mount server running windows 2003. Veritas sees the tape drive but it does not see any media in the drive. I try to run a inventory it saus its run sucessfully but there is no drive activity, I try to eject the tape it says successful how ever the tape does not eject. The drive has the latest furmware N27D and also the latest HP drivers. I have also downloaded and installed all the latest Veritas patches and Service packs etc.

Any ideas?

Hello Thomas!

Check if the following technotes help you troubleshoot the communications issue between your tape device and backup server.
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/255501.htm
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;154690

Also update the scsicontroller drivers

Regards,
Ashutosh

Hi,

I Have done this, i have tried the latest HP Drivers and even the Latest veritas drivers. I have installed the latest LSi Logic SCSI controler card drivers and have done the firmware updates on that as well.

Also with no luck what so ever.

Is there a solution to this or should we revert back to netvault?Message was edited by:

Hello,

Is the device properly detected by Windows through the device manager?
Upgrade to the latest build for Backup exec 10.0 which is 5520 in case you dont have it already. Here is the link for the download:

Title: VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 10.0 rev. 5520 for Windows Servers Installation Files
http://support.veritas.com/docs/277181

Are you able to run a small backup job on the drive as it seems to be detected but not the tape? Try doing so and test the results.

If the issue persists, do write back with details.

HI,

The tape drive gets detected properly in Device manager.
I have checked and i have the latest build plus all the latest patches and service packs.

I have even re installed windows 2003 last evening and still the same issue.

Even took the LTO back to HP so they can test it. I stood there while whatching it backup to the same tapes' i've tried to with veritas.

Any other ideas?

Hello,

Perform the power cycle steps once for the tape drive and the tape drive and check the results..
