HP MS 2024 LTO 6 tape libaray using BackupExec 2012

I'm using a HP MS 2024 library and I have configure approximately 19 jobs to run.  Together all of these backup approximately over 4TB of data.  The first (2) jobs for the daily backup are for the Exchange and Cif's backup respectively, they kick off 99% of the time they finish successfully and then the other jobs kick off and they are mostly SQL dumps.

I loaded (5) LTO 6 tapes for (2) days worth of backups, that amount of tapes will be able to handle the amount of data to be backup.  My question is this, by the second day in the backup set I still have enough available space remaining on the tapes to handle the backup jobs but sometimes, when I check on the status of the backup a couple of the SQL jobs will have the following alert displayed, "Please, insert media... so that the job will be able to continue"  or very similar message.  If, I proceed to go to the storage GUI there is available media waiting to be access by the software.  For example, I might have a tape that has only used only half TB of storage and the backup job might only require 500Gigs to complete it's backup.  How come Symantec backup exec 2012 doesn't pull in the remaining media?  FYI.. Is there a timely issue at play?

Thanks,

Bob

Ideally, you should the job set to append the global media protection level should be set to partial.

See my article below and take note of the part talking about overlapping jobs which is probably the cause of your problem. https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/why-my-job-not-appending-data-my-tapes BTW, there is no need to use bold and big font. We can read the default font just fine
