Hanging on C:\WINNT\Softwaredistribution\Datastore EDB files

I have backups hanging on one of our servers. It was on these files for over 10 hours and didnt go any further.

C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore\Datastore.edb
C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore\Logs\edb.log
C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore\Logs\tmp.edb

I had to stop services via Windows Services (it wouldnt stop them via the application) to even get the job to stop. It wouldnt cancel or anything.

This has happened two nights in a row. Can these files be excluded? Does version 10d have some type of standard exclusion list so I can check all the servers and make sure this doesnt happen in the future?

Between this problem and the reoccurring WMI problem, our backup environment has been pretty unreliable lately.

Also, I tried to use DirectAssist but after making the entry, it is supposed doing some type of diagnostics and I.E. stops responding.

I found the answer to my own question. Apparently, this directory is for the windows update database. According to one of our I.T. Professionals, it isn't necessary to back this up; so, I excluded it from backup.
