How can I restore only system partition by Backup Exec 2012?

Hello!

I need to restore only system partition after unsuccessfull security updates installation on the MS Windows Server 2008 R2 with Symantec Backup Exec 2012 Agent for Windows Server (MS AD domain member).

I tried to perform it by Symantec SRD, but this method requires full backup of the server with all drives (if I understand manual). I need to restore only system partition on the file server with multiple large logical drives.

If I try restoring server by Symantec Backup Exec Agent with usual backup set of the system drive C: and System state, after restoring I have two problem:

1. The problem files after unsuccessfull security update stillpresents on the disk C:

2. Server unable connect to MS AD domain.

What is the true way to restore only system partition on the server?

Thank You,

Andrew.

To rectify your situation, you need to wipe out your existing server and do a SDR/manual recovery from the last good backup before the security update.  See these documents

Hi,

1. restore the C:\ drive first;

2. Restore the System State as changes would've been made to this.

best bet is to also check out the Microsoft site for specific steps to follow when recovering a server in a situation like yours.

Thanks!

Hello, CraigV.

Symantec BE 2012 - commercial product for backup and recovery of the Windows Servers, this product must supply reliable server restoring without additional steps.

I think that result of recovering of system partition could be better if I could be use SRD disk for restore of sysytem partition only.

Thank You,

Andrew
