How do I backup and restore BE2012 on Windows Server 2008 R2 to BE2016 on Windows Server 2012?

Hi all

I have a plan BE upgrade(backup and restore) on windows server. BE and Windows Server will be changed higher version, BE 2012 on Windows Server 2008 R2 to BE 2016 on Windows Server 2012. Server IP won't be changed. Backup Storage which is connected BE via network  also won't be changed like IP, name, etc 

I have three questions.

1. I want to backup  BE settings and backup schedules. etc. What do I backup BE 2012 data?

2. How do I restore to BE 2016?

3. In BE 2016, can I use backup data for restoration which is backuped using BE2012?

If you copy the catalogs as mentioned in above technote then you would be able to restore data backed up using BE2012.

Hi,

1. The Data & Catalogs folders are critical in order to restore Backup Exec.;

2. Follow the TN below:

3. Yes you can. As long as you carry the BE information across correctly, when you start up BE 16 it's going to have knowledge of your previous jobs. You can then restore as you wish even if backed up with BE 2012.
