How do I update the MSDE used with BE 9.x to SP4

Hi,

MS has recently released SP4 for SQL 2000 and MSDE 2000. I have many BE for Windows 9.x servers that I need to patch with this SP, however I cant seem to figure out how to do it. I tried this:

setup /upgradesp sqlrun INSTANCENAME=BKUPEXEC blanksapwd=1 /L*v C:\MSDELog.log

But this tells the product is not licensed. I read some where that this message indicates a special MSI transform was used to install the product, and that I have to obtain an updated version from the vendor (Veritas/Symantec).

Is there I file I can download or instructions on how to create my own?

Thanks

Hello,

Install SP4 from the link given below.

Yes - I tried that. But I am getting the license not found error. Hence, I need a specialized version of the installer of SP4 made for the configuration of MSDE used with BE.

Thanks

Hello Nelson,

Veritas/Symantec does not release any specialised versions for MSDE or its SP's. In case you want to get these Service packs, we suggest you to contact Microsoft.

Make sure that you have updated Backup Exec v9.0 to Backup Exec v9.1. It addresses many issues and enhancements from an earlier versions and Build of Backup Exec v9.0. Refer the following technotes:

Title: VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 for Windows Servers revision 4691.1 (Single .ZIP download)
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/264658.htm

Title: VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 for Windows Servers General Information
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/262414.htm

Note: 1. BEWS 9.1 is a free downloadable upgrade inclusive of previously installed agents and options from Backup Exec 9.0 for Windows Servers agents and options.

2. Update all agents/options on all remote systems.
