How many agents?

Hello everyone

Just to make sure, can anyone confirm that in an Exchange 2007 distributed environment (messaging server, security, HUB, CAS... on different machines) the Backup Exec agent for Exchange is only needed on the server holding the Information Stores (messaging)?

I mean, in the other ones a Windows Remote agent is enough, isn't it?

Thank you very much

You only buy the Exchange agent once no matter how many Exchange servers that you have.

The Exchange agent is a function of BackupExec; the remote agent install is identical no matter if the Exchange server hosts the mailbox role or not.

Functionally you are correct

Legally, you need a valid serial for each database server you  backup (Exchange, MSSQL, etc)

All that is installed on the Database server is the RemoteAgent (now included with the Database serial)
