I'm doing a full backup to disk and would like to know what the best practic is for improving the speed of the jobs. Right now we're getting about 200 to 300 MB/min. Is there something I can do to make this go faster? I am evaluating the latest version of BE 2010 R3 and we plan to purchase this soon if it looks like the best option. I started one job last at midnight and it took almost 12 hours to complete a back of almost 200 GB. Is that normal? Is there something I forgot to enable or disable to improve the speed? As of right now, the job is still going, but now it's in "Verify" mode. Do I need this?

The Verify is to check that the backup is is good. It is the recommended practice.
There is no cookbook way to improve backup speeds because there are many variables anc combinations of these variables involved in a backup. For example, the CPU of the media, congestion on the network, the number of files, the level of disk fragmentation and so on.

Backup Exec will never run faster than the speed you can copy files over the network.
Can you please describe your setup a bit more, like number of servers, OS, network (10/100/1000), virtualization if any.

These are great resources. Thank you very much, Sush.

For now, I am testing out the latest version of BE 2010 R3 on one server which is a VM and it is backing up folder shares on a remote server which is on the same LAN. The OS is Win2008, network is 10/100/1000. Total size for the backup job is about 220 GB and it's all going to a external hard drive on the the same machine. So, BE is on Server01 which is a VM and it is backing up 3 network shares on Server02 which is not a VM and it is all going to an external hard drive which is also connected to Server02. I hope that makes sense. If you need more info let me know.

USB devices can be quite slow for large transfers...

Hi Sush,
The last two links come back with "Page/doc not found" errors.
