How to obtain VERITAS Backup Exec 9.1?

InterDev

Hello,

I have a Windows NT server that is on it's last leg.  I DESPERATELY need to backup this server asap.  As you're aware, all current versions on Backup Exec do not support NT.  But after doing some research I learned that VERITAS Backup Exec 9.1 was the last Backup Exec release to offer support for NT.

Please let me know where or how I can obtain VERITAS Backup Exec 9.1.  Or if there is another Symantec backup software solution better suited for backing up a Windows NT server.

Thanks!

See http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH29571

Don't forget to grab SP5

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH50430

and the latest driver pack

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH36262

You should be able to run it for 60 days in Demo mode, and the tapes it creates can be read by any subsequent version

Got it, but now I'm getting a couple errors when I try to work with 9.1.

One after trying to install remote agent on a NT4; error 0003 cannot find file.  Remote agent service won't start.

And another one where the BE Job Engine won't start;

I've seen things about confirming port 10,000 isn't in use, I'm trying to figure out how to confirm that.

There goes my weekend ;)

BE Device and media service is dependant on SQL service, make sure SQL service is up and running.

Got it running, finally.  Used this info.

BE default imagepath for beremote.exe in the registry is \RANT - which is incorrect.

I changed it to the correct path (\NT) and I was then able to start the remote agent service.

This NT4 server is just about dead, the end game here is to P2V it...but I'm not seeing any "system state backup" or BARE METAL restore options in BE.

Does anyone who how I can P2V an NT4 box using BE 9.1?  I was hoping to do a full system state/bare metal backup on the physical machine, then restore it to a VM of NT4.   BMR CD's are what I've used in the past, but like I said above...I'm not sure if BE has that option or an equivalent option.

And thanks for your continued help on this, you guys are great.

BE 9.1 does not have a direct p2v conversion option for NT4

VMware Converter 3.0.1 should be able to achieve that.
