How to restore a fullbackup to a different machine?

I am using BE 8.6/Windows 2000 server and Dell PowerVault 128T library to back all our servers. Is it possible to restore a fullbackup from one server (windows 2000 server) to a new hardward meaning a new machine? Thanks.

DC or member server?

Is the hardware more or less the same (NIC, SCSI/RAID controller, etc)

It's a web server (IIS). Hardware are kind of similar. Thanks Ken.

in that case, it should restore OK, but be aware that some devices may not start until you load the correct drivers

You also need to be sure that the old (original) server is off the network before you try to reboot the new hardware

Thank Ken. Can you give a brief step by step instruction?
Should I first install the same OS on the new machine with similar partitions as the old one, and then restore the backup from the tape library?
Also should I change the computer name after the restore, right?
Do you know if the IIS configurations are restored as well?

Look in your Admin Guide for Disaster Recovery (non-IDR)

v8.6 Admin Guide is here, if you can't find your bound copy

And yes, the IIS config should restore. I'm not sure how renaming the system will affect IIS, tho.
