To upgrade BE 1. Check the SCL and HCL below to ensure that all the software and hardware that you want to use with BE 2014 is supported http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH217478 http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH214803 2. Contact the Symantec Licencing department to get a new set of license keys for BE 2014. Your existing set of license keys will not work. The new set of keys are free if you are on a current maintenance contract. 3. Download the BE 2014 installation DVD from either fileconnect.Symantec.com or the trialware section of www.Backupexec.com 4. If the OS of your media server supports BE 2014, then you can run the installation DVD and upgrade BE. Otherwise, you would have to upgrade the OS first. Before the upgrade, make a copy of the Data and Catalog directories under the BE installation directory so that you can revert if the upgrade fails. 5. After upgrading, run Liveupdate a couple of times to upgrade to SP2 and the latest hotfixes. 6. Push out the remote agent to your remote servers To backup a physical server, read the backup chapter in the Admin Guide below http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC7418

BE does not take image backups. Do read the Admin Guide

...you need something like SYmantec System Recovery for an image backup. USing BE itself, you'd just select everything and it would be backed up and restored on a file basis.

Thanks!
