IBM domino administrator - unable to create locations

Miguel_Gauci
Not applicable

We are having problems opening the Domino administrator after installing Backup Exec 2010. We get the error "Unable to create locations due to error 'This database is currently in use by another person or process and cannot be accessed at this time. In order to share a notes database, it must be accessed via a Domino Server by all users of the database.'. Loc"

Once we reboot the server, the problem disapears, but resurfaces after the daily scheduled backup runs again.

We are performing a full backup of the server.

Hi,

I take it you are using the correct agent? If not, I'd suggest invoking the trial of the agent and running the backup again. Then verify if you get the error again...

Thanks!

If you are using the Domino agent, uninstall and install the Domino Agent licence key and push out the remote agent to the Domino server again.

Normally there isn't any conflict between the BE Domino agent and the Domino Administrator... The error you're getting is related to how databases are being opened and locked.  When opening any Domino database, to permit sharing of the database, it must be opened via the Domino server.  From your description, something in the Domino server environment is preventing proper sharing of databases.  Backup Exec uses the pointers in the Domino registry to locate and use the correct connectors to get to databases and open them properly but can also use the system path to find them.  If any location is wrong or has outdated connector DLLs, either the Domino agent will work incorrectly or a local Lotus client like the Domino Administrator will have issues. For this, technote http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH157608
can be used to see the particulars on how the agent makes its connection.

If nothing appears to be out of place, there can also be issues with some other process 'locking' a database file within Windows.  This lock status gets passed through Windows to Domino server and prevents proper sharing of databases.  Look into virus scanning.
