BerndS
Level 3

Hello,

the network drivers will not load successfully by using the following environment:

Hardware:

HP ProLient DL380 G7 Server

NICs (builtin): NC382i

Software:

BackupExec 2010 R2 Revision 4164

OS: Windows 2003 Server R2 x64 (latest SP and Patches)

After a full backup of the complete server and IDR bootable CD Image was created.

If this CD will be used, the IDR Wizard is not able to start the network correctly.

All four built in  NICs are deteced, but the drivers can't be loaded.

Find below the error messages:

Would suggest you to log a case with Support as it seems to be a bug .

BerndS

How can I do this?

If I try to open a case, the system asks for a support id, contract id or case id.

But actually I do not have a support contract with Symantec.

Do you know how to enter this as a bug?

Thanks for support.

Try this: (which actually came from a colleagues post about a Dell - however HP and Dell both use Broadcom Chipsets for their onboard NICs - just for completeness the thread for his post is https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/idr-doesnt-find-network-card-dell-poweredge-r310)

Add the following

Add the following entries

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_163B
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_163C

to the β€˜<BackupExec Install Path>\idr\disk4\bedrwiz.ini’ file under the [Network Bus Enumerators] section on the media server and recreate the IDR recovery CD for the Windows 2003 R2 Standard x64 remote system. After the addition the [Network Bus Enumerators] should resemble the following

;
; Section to list custom network bus enumerator devices
;

[Network Bus Enumerators]

; Broadcom BCM5708C  NetXtreme II GigE VBD
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_1639
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_163A
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_163B
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_163C
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164A
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164C
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_16AA
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_16AC

; NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0086
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00DF
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0038
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0057
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0269

Thank you for this post.

Unfortunately this is also not working.

The same error occurs:

Error [0xe0000217] installing driver for the hardware id <b06bdrv\l2nd&pci_163914e4&subsys_7055103c> from the inf file <b:\drivers\inf\5.2.service pack 2@l2nd_1dce2_124838@oem5.inf>
Error loading driver for the device: HP NC382i DP Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter

Do you have any other suggestion?

In my opinion it looks like a bug, there was a similar issue in 2007 with BackupExec 11 and HP DL380 G4 Servers. Symatec delivered a patchm afterwards the NICs were detected without any problem.

Can you please conact me directly and/or place a case at the Technical Support of Symantec?

Thank you.

Regards Bernd Schlaupitz

Backup Exec 2010 R2 was sold with inbuilt support (in most countries) as such you should be able to log a support case yourself.

And yes you are correct we have had problems in the past (primarily with onboard chipsets)  - basically every time Broadcom or Intel (or others) release new chipsets for Network interface cards there is a potential that Backup Exec IDR may no longer be able to correctly attach to the NIC driver.

Ther are unfortunately too many network cards on the market for us to provide a full compatibility testing regime so we have to rely on customers logging support cases for us to research the problems (and in some cases arrange with the hardware vendors to get the same hardware to test.)

How can I place a support case by myself?

I tried this several time and the Web Tools requests everytime a support id or contract id.

Thank you.

Call the support hotline, they could possibly look up your company name.  Or look on your license certificates that were emailed or physically mailed to you, that info would be on there in regards to customer ID, support ID, sales order #, etc.

Hi All,

I'm trying to make a recovery of an hp DL 360 G6 with NC382i Gigabit network card.

I used Win2K3 SE SP2 (with the drivers of the NIC NC382i) to create the IDR CD.

But it doesn't work.

Could anybody give me a clue to fix this issue.

Thanks

Hi

Can you open new thread for this new issue as this thread is old now

Thank You

To be honest whether a new thread or an old thread - unless we have already documented that that card is fixed by a Hotfix (Device Driver Install update)  then it is going to need a formal support case to resolve.

is it the hardware compatibility issue?
