Installing Backupexec 2014 MMS with Backup exec 2012 Central Admin-Query

Hi Members,

I have a Backupexec 2012 Central admin server with Four Backup exec2012 MMS..Backup jobs are working fine and all MMS servers are reporting to CentralAdmin.

I need to Introduce a backupexec 2014 Server which will be my MMS for my Sharepoint 2013 Backups.

The question here is Will i be able to install Backupexec2014 and configure it as a MMS,and to report it to 2012 Central Admin server

Presently i have no plans to upgrade backup exec 2012 Central Admin server.

What is required to achieve this?

Hi,

Backup Exec won't be forwards compatible, and while BE 2012 and BE 2014 might be similar, there are going to be changes to the code obviously. BE 2014 on a CAS server would manage a BE 2012 MMS mainly for rolling upgrade purposes.

But a BE 2012 CAS won't manage a BE 2014 MMS, and if you manage to get it right, it would most likely lead to some issues in time.

Your best bet would be to upgrade all servers to BE 2014 starting with the CAS server, or alternatively just leave this particular server as a stand-alone until you upgrade.
