Installing Veritas 10

Had Veritas 9 installed. PC crashed and reghosted. Rather than reinstalling 9, we had just purchased Version 10.0 through Dell. The install will be on a Dell GX270 Optiplex running Windows XP Pro with a Power Vault Tape Drive. It will be backing up files on a Stratus machine running Windows Server 2003.

Unfortunately, Dell didn't send us any licenses the first time and now they've sent us one for Backup Exec. No additional licenses for remote agents, etc. Tried installing it on the PC with the 1 license but added it and tried to go to the next screen and it required us to add another license for options. Of course, no license is available and we are sure we need at least one more if not more than than licenses. Dell hasn't a clue and neither do we. What licenses should we be requesting from Dell to accomplish the backup of the files that reside on the Stratus?

The GX270 PC where the software will reside and the Stratus which it will backup are on the same domain on the same network and physically within 5 feet of each other in a Police Department Computer Room.

Thanks for any help that will assist us in getting this resolved. We have been without a backup of our application database for almost 3 weeks and getting very nervous. All assistance greatly appreciated.

In the meantime till you get the licenses worked out you could manually backup the databases by setting up a script to run every night at the lowest traffic time to stop the db server and copy the database file to a seperate folder, then restart the service. Unless the db is over a gb or larger it usually only takes a few seconds for the script to run and complete the copy.

Another option is to enable shadow copy on the db volume so that it gets copied to an archive automatically by the OS by whatever amount you specify. Neither option is pretty, but will at least get you something till you can get the licenses cleanup up and BE running again.
