Insufficient online or nearline media?

I'm new at my company and taking over the role of data backup - something that nobody has been taking care of until I was hired.

I'm experiencing the error outlined in http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/255956.htm

The full error:
Online media check : Insufficient online or nearline media is available to start job.
Overwrite media check: There is no media online or nearline that can be overwritten or the job has been marked append/terminate.
Media check status : Failed

I'm using brand new tapes with nothing on them, definitely not write protected. I've tried stopping/restarting the service, I can't restart the server at this time of the day as it holds our critical production application as well.

We're using a dell powervault 100t.

As far as I know this setup used to work several months ago when the person I replaced was still working here. Any ideas on what's going on? Additionally weird: I got one succesful backup the first time I tried and the three days since then whenever I come in in the morning backup exec has closed itself after trying to back up 1 or 2 files. The jobs aren't failing though - they're being put on hold. So I started tinkering around and running test runs and that's when I've been getting this error. Thanks for any help you can give.

Did you try running a very small backup job to test?

I got a succesful backup on Thursday night (god knows why?).. I'm still getting these same errors when trying to do a test run, though.

How is the job defined? Overwrite/Append, else Overwrite/Append, else Terminate?

Are you backing up to a standalone tape drive, a tape library or B2D folder?Message was edited by:
