Hello

how can I set up IDR on my Backup exec 2010 R3 to run a full image of my PC? On a regular basis?

Any agent to install to the client or licence to add to backup exec? I don't seem to find any info

You don't need any additional license for IDR. All you need to do is to enable the IDR option and run full backups of your entire server To know more about IDR, read the IDR chapter in the Admin Guide

In addition to pkh  here are a couple of links about IDR

thanks for the info.

I have 97+ GB worth of data/apps to be saved. I won't to be able to use CDs, maybe a ext USB HDD is the best option if it can be used in case of restoring.

Will this IDR work as Ghost Image at all?

Backup Exec does not have imaging functionality.  It provides a automated restore of the C: drive, system state and components needed to restore a machine. Image restore technology similar to Ghost is provided by Symantec System Recovery (SSR)  http://www.symantec.com/system-recovery-server-edition

The only CD needed is for the IDR boot disk.  You boot up your server to be restored from this disk and it will restore the server from your backup set, whether they are on tape or disk.

You should read the IDR chapter to familiarise yourself with the IDR process before proceeding further.

You might want to watch my video below on the IDR restore process.

Ok, just to recap:

In case of HD failure, IDR will restore the OS back to an initial stage, without any data, Outlook mails or any software that I have installed meanwhile.

Is that correct?

No. The applications will be up and running, except that there is no data in them. If the applications are not up and running, how do you restore the data?
