Introducing Backup Exec FP3

Continuing with our cadence of delivering regular product updates to our customers and partners, we are excited to announce the availability of Backup Exec 15 Feature Pack (FP) 3.

Feature Pack 3, available today via TechNote, includes support for Google Cloud Storage and significant performance improvements for VMware and Hyper-V virtual machines that enable you to decrease the size of the backup and perform faster VM backup and recoveries.

Backup Exec’s Cloud Connector (introduced in Feature Pack 2) now enables customers to use Google Cloud Storage as an alternative to tape when choosing long-term storage of backup data. Additionally, Backup Exec Data Lifecycle Management (DLM) capabilities can manage when and how information is moved from online disk to Google Cloud Storage.

Improved virtual machine capabilities:

• Due to changes made to the backup process, companies protecting either VMware or Hyper-V with Backup Exec FP3 will see significant gains in the performance of backup and restore times as well as reduction in the size of the backup.
• Administrators can also get fast incremental backups for Hyper-V virtual machines by leveraging a new process that writes the changed blocks to a differencing disk and then only backs up that particular disk.

Additionally, we’re making your job easier with a new Configuration Validation feature, which allows you to view any configuration related issues right from the home page. Along with identifying the nature of the issue, this feature also suggests the possible change in the configuration to solve the problem.

Other new features include:

• Support for the following software environments:
  • Exchange 2013 CU10 and CU11
  • VMware 6.0 U1
  • VMware 5.5 U3
  • CentOS Linux 6.7 and 7.0
• Support to select the preferred DAG node / nodes in a Microsoft Exchange IP-less DAG environment.
• Startup screen that shows the new features and enhancements in the current release.
