Is Synthetic backup supported for Open storage devices on BE 2012?

Hi,

Is Synthetic backup supported for Open storage devices on BE 2012?

When i try to create synthetic backup it is asking for Creating a Diskstorage,

Is Diskstorage must for running synthetic backup over Open storage devices and once i moved forward by

creating a Diskstorage, For incremental backup it is not showing any Openstorage device?

Please clarify.

You cannot run synthetic backups on a OST device or dedup folder.  This has been so since BE 2010.

At least from an NBU perspective, that may change later this year I've heard with DataDomain units.  Hopefully it'll also apply to BackupExec.  But Synthetics in BE have never been a strong seller nor solid performer.  So hopefully there was enough of a userbase to get it implemented...
