Is there BackupExec 16 release that runs on non-Windows OS? For example a Linux pre-packaged OVA that one would deploy and not have to use up a Microsoft server license just for running BackupExec 16 product?
There is currently no Backup Exec product that you are describing. That said, Backup Exec doesn't necessarily need to be on it's own server, especially since Backup Exec usually is really only running off hours.
Thanks @Stephen_Kent -- so just to clarify when you mentioned "on it's own server" you mean to share an existing Windows server which already runs something else so that a dedicated Microsoft server license isn't used up just for running Backup Exec 16 server product, yes?
Yes, that's exactly what I was saying. While we're always going to suggest that Backup Exec be on it's own server, many customers run Backup Exec on servers that have other business applications running on them.
