It is too slow to be backed up to tape driver.

I am backing up my backups to tape storage. I am receiving more than 100,000 files, and incremental backup speed is about 10MB ~ 30MB. The tape storage is stand-alone, and I have been doing it for three years and it is getting too slow so I do not know how to get it. Full backup capacity is about 2.5TB, and increment is about 500MB ~ 1GB.

what shoud i do?

If you are using the archive bit method, try changing to the modified time method

what is the source? windows server, san storagen ...?

is there any fragmentation on your source?

is there antivirus installed on your source?

what type of tape drive?

slowness can be caused by various third parties,

- high fragmented source disk

- antivirus checking every action performed by bexec process

- shoe-shining on your tape drive, because it cannot slow down to the delivering speed of the source
