Job Failed - An unknown error occurred within the NDMP subsystem

I keep getting an error when backing up my Exchange 2007 server.  I have searched the knowledge base but there is nothing for the error message

" [serverbackupjobname] -- The job failed with the following error: An unknown error occurred within the NDMP subsystem."

That is all it says, this is not a VM or Hyper-V server nor a Netware or Red Hat server.  And what is NDMP subsystem??

Thanks

Cathy

Ok I found the solution.   This server use to be a BE 2011 backup server.  I had not removed the backup exec from it.  Once I did that and reinstalled the agent,  I did not get this error any longer.

Thanks to all that responded back to this post.  I do appreciate each of you.

Have a good one.

Hello, try recreating your selection list and your job,  then run the job again

Please upgrade you BE server and remote agent to

BE 2010

Backup Exec 2010 R3 revision 5204 Service Pack 3

BE 2012

Backup Exec 2012 revision 1798 Service Pack 2

and retry the backup

Thanks much.  I do have Service Pack 2 for 2012 installed and also on the remotes.

Thanks Donald.

That is not the error that I am getting though.  There is NO Browse Failure error.  But I will look for a third party service that could be listening on the NDMP Port and will disable
