LTO3 drive really slow - 300MB/Min

We are using Veritas 9.1 on Windows 2000 Server

We are backing up using a Certance Ultrium 3 external backup device thats only going at 300MB/Min

We have the latest Windows drivers for the device, and a am sure we have all the lastest patches for Veritas 9.1.

When i go onto the 'Devices' tab and right click on the 'Certance' stand alone device, i click on the 'Media Types' tab and it states the media type is '***'

I am wondering if this is why the backups are running so slow at 300MB/Min

Any help would be great,

Regards,

As per our understanding of the issue, there are many possibilities due to which the throughput can effect:

- Update the firmware of the drive and the controller.

-There are various reasons why the data throughput rate can be slower than the theoretical maximum when backing up to tape media. Backup performance varies between similar systems, and the backup performance of any system is directly related to one or more of the performance factors. Refer to the following link:

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/231488.htm

Refer to the following technote on What VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) settings can be modified to reduce the amount of time it takes for a backup to run?
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/249090.htm

We hope this will help.
