I'm using Backup Exec 15 revision 1180 Feature Pack 4 on Windows Server 2k8 R2 Std x64.
1. I use Backup Exec 15 to backup\restore data from\to Windows File server with IBM Backup Tape TS2900, LTO4. Now I'm planning to install new Win Server 2k12, then install Backup Exec (copy folder "Program Data\Symantec" from old server 2k8), then restore data from a Full Backup Tape. (total data is about 700GB, enough to backup in 01 Backup Tape 800GB). Do you know the best practice document for this migration?
2. With the unlimited license of Backup Exec 15, which is the newest version of Backup Exec I can use?
1) For migrating Backup Exec from one server to another please follow this document:
2) With Backup Exec 15 licenses it can be used only for the same version. Every version has different licenses. I would suggest you to speak to Customer Care for licenses with the latest version.
Hallo Sush, thanks so much for your useful information, I'll learn from it.
However I forgot asking about data migration, I has 02 types of backup with Backup Exec 15 (daily incremental, and weekly full). The total data of weekly backup is about 700GB (user's data only), and it is stored in a IBM Backup Tape 800GB.
So after the migration of Backup Exec 15 to new File server is completed, I see at least there're 03 ways to restore data from old File server to new File server. (new File server has same computer name, same IP address so that there's no impact to user):
As your experience, can you advice which way is the best option in this case, that all data is intact.
With data capicity is about 700GB, can you estimate the time to complete. Currently Backup Exec 15 takes about 09 hours for a full backup from File server to IBM Tape Drive.
Thanks again for your kind support,
Sorry in making you confuse in below message.
The article for migration of BE (https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100001807.html%C2%A0) already included step "Copy BE Database" (https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100017867.html)
So there're 02 options to restore data into new File server, which way is better for this:
