Lost the lot! help

Good morning all,

We have set up several virtual servers, onto which one was placed our Backup Exec 12.5 server. We were halfway through setting up a backup for the vmdks when the SAN failed and has lost all of the metadata for the vmdk files for around 60% of our servers. Meaning we have lost our backup exec server, all of the backup to disk folders are stored on 2 x DX80s. I have now rebuilt a backup exec server but need to know how to bring the backups back into this new server. Is it possible and what is the routine please?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

1) delete the .cfg files from the B2D folders

2) create B2D folders in BE and point to these folders

3) inventory and catalog the folders.

4) do your restore

You should not use a VM for your media server.  It is recommended that you use a physical machine for your media server.

Thanks for that, That's what we thought and have in fact started this, however it's picking up the previosuly 20GB drives as 4GB (even though we stated 20GB).

I don't understand.  Why is your drive so small?

We have 2 x 24TB backup arrays, when we were setting up the backup-to-disk file sizes, it defaulted to 4GB, and we thought that 20GB would be better (rightly or wrongly).

4GB is the default size...Try editing the B2D properties & set it to 20 GB...See if the change is accepted or not.

Note that after you have changed the max size parameter, it only takes effect the next time the .bkf is overwritten or a new .bkf file is created.

Thanks for that, we had  already done that when we set up the backup to disk folders, we then carried out the inventory and clicked on catalog for one of the 20GB folders, so far we are showing that the job has been going for 16 hours and the byte count is nearly 3 TB, (there are around 12TB of backups on one of the arrays).
