Lotus Domino agent for BE9.1 SP2 not compatible with Notes server 6.5.4?

ever since we upgraded to notes 6.5.4 the Lotus domino agent for BE 9.1 SP2 has failed to work.

the job hangs during pre-processing and never backs up any data.

I have tried deploying a new agent to the remote server. this does not change anything.
I have tired uninstalling and reinstalling the remote agent as well to no avail.

altho it risks database corruption, I can backup the server without the notes agent and things work fine.
it seems clearly to be a problem with the BE lotus notes server agent and not the remotely depoloyed agent.

Any ideas on a workaround other than not using the agent?
Any patches from Veritas for this?
Is veritas going to make a new Lotus Notes server agent that is compatible with Domino R6.5.4 ?
Does BE 10 fix this problem or does it suffer from it too?

Platform is WIndows 2003 pre-SP1 for both the backup server and the Domino server.

Hello,

Please refer the following technote and verify the result.

Title:
When using Backup Exec 9.x or 10.0 for Windows Servers, jobs stop responding in the "pre-processing" state indefinitely.
http://support.veritas.com/docs/256287

Additionally refer the following technote for more information.

Title:
Jobs hang in "pre-processing" or "backup scan" when doing an offline or flat-file backup of a Lotus Domino server.
http://support.veritas.com/docs/253920

If you are using AOFO, refer the following technote.
Title:
Backup jobs stay in a "pre-processing" state when using the Advanced Open File Option in Backup Exec 9.0

I tried all 3 but they did not work

I checked for the cache file, but it did not exist on either server on any drive. I changed the 2 registry settings on both servers. reboot both servers, and then tried to do the backup. The situation was the same, ( hung at pre-processing).

I watched the beremote.exe process on the remote server.
I saw how it consumed up to 412MB of ram during the pre-processing stage. It took about 6 min for it to get that high. after which time it crashed the server.

I then tried to create a new backup job that backs up the same data. when I was on the selection view, I noticed that it took an incredibly long time after I clicked a drive with NSFs on it for it to display the contents.

when contents did get displayed, they were incomplete.
a folder with 4 other folders only showed 1. a folder with about 120 files only showed 1.

I then completely unistalled the remote agent, reboot the remote machine, re-installed the remote agent, reboot the remote machine and tried the backiup again.
still got the same result. backup hangs during pre-processing and the agent on the remote machine consumes ram like mad.

any other suggestions?

Hello,

As you must have checked, Lotus Domino 6.5.4 is not explicitly compatible with version 9.1 of Backup Exec. Version 10.0 is compatible with Lotus Domino 7 and is known to work with 6.5.4. We thus suggest you to upgrade to version 10.0.
