Migrate to new BE server - De-duplicate Storage

Mike85

Hi we are looking to phase out our 2008 R2 Backup exec server and move onto new hardware with 2012 R2 installed.

Currently we backup our Hyper-V Virtual infrastructure using the Virtual Agent to dedupe storage. The dedupe storage is located on SAN provisioned LUN.

The problem we have is that we need to keep the current backup sets and wish to migrate the LUN onto the new server. Looking at the documentation, it seems that it is not possible to do this if using GRT with the Virtual Agent.

Can anyone suggest how we migrate backup sets from our dedupe storage a new Backup Exec server or the best way to migrate from a BE install with dedupe to another BE install?

Thanks

One way is to use "Veritas Backup Exec™ Migration Assistant" to move database and catalogs (BE installation):

https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000126391

Then map the LUN on to new server with same drive letter.

In case of any issues with this process, Deduplication folder can be imported in Backup Exec by steps provided in following technote:
