Migrating to Windows 2003 Server

We currently use BE 9.1 to backup our 3 servers; a file server, a Citrix server and an Exchange Server all running Win2k. We have just signed a contract to purchase 3 new servers to replace each of those servers mentioned all running Windows 2003 server.

Are there step by step instructions on how to move my current BE9.1 installation to the new servers? I do not have the original media, but do I need it? I have downloaded the file Q118478.BEWS.91.4691.1_264658.zip which I believe is the complete 9.1 installation file. I have the registration keys and even the registration key file.

Do I need to download any other files such as an agent for Exchange or Advanced Open File Option, etc?

Tech support gave me the answer to one of my questions. I will need to do a clean install since I am going to a different Server OS.

I still need to know if I can use the massive Service Pack files I have downloaded in place of my original CDs, which I am still unable to locate?

Just the single install file is all that would be needed. The "agents" are just capabilities that are unlocked by the serials

For a complete up-to-date v9.1 install you would need

v9.1.4691.1 here

First of all, Thank you Ken.

Tech support came back with a definitive answer to my other question. Can I install from downloaded files or do I need the original CD. Your answer seems to indicate that all I need to do is download the files from the links you specified. Tech support contradicts that. Below is there response.

You will need the original disks for installation. You will not be able to install Backup Exec from just the SP.

You can download Backup Exec v9.1 from the following link - http://support.veritas.com/docs/264658

Guess I will find out for sure when I go to install the files from the links you provided. Thanx again for your help.

We're both right :)

You cannot do an install from just the serice pack, but you can do it from the downloads that I listed . The first one is the install for v9.1.4691.1

Hi just wondering which version of Windows 2003 Server did you purchase?

We are facing the same situation, an upgrade from Windows 2000 server to 2003 server. I noticed the 2003 server has an R2 version. Is this version compatible with BE 9.1?

I checked the BE 9.1 software compatibility list and it only states 2003 server. The BE 11d compatibility list states both 2003 server and 2003 server R2.

We purchased R2 and it works fine with 9.1. In fact it works better with R2 then it did with Windows 2000.
