Move BE 2014 to new server: 536928977

Hi all,

This is my goal:

Old server: Win2008 R2, BE2014, SQL on SQL server
New server: Win2008R2, BE2014, SQL on  same server.

I used http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH67296 to migrate the DATA, CATALOG en SQL data to the new server. Everything went smooth.

Until I started the BE services. The Backup Exec Device and Media Service cannot started. I get error:

The Backup Exec Device and Media Service cannot start because it detected a database schema version mismatch.

Strange, because I run a succefull BEMIG.

Status Message: Backup Exec Device & Media Service Database, version 14.100000 is up to date. No changes are required.
Status Message: ADAMM upgrade ended

What can I do now?

Maybe you should try SDR your BE 2014 server.

1. Full backup BE 2014 Server

2. Create SDR for your BE 2014 server

3. Restore SDR to your new server

4. After SDR complete before reboot disconnect from network your new server

5. Change new server IP's to the old one

6. disconnect the old server and then connect new server

I hope this alternative way help you

Pls open a cmd and browse to the Backup Exec directory. Run the following command and paste the output -

pvlsvr.exe -console

I can't save the output. The console is closing automaticly.

So I do it the dirty way:ADAM.PNG

Could you pipe it instead. Try a sample command such as this -

pvlsvr.exe -console >C:\output.txt

Yes, I tried. But the output file keeps empty..

In that case, open SGMon.exe from \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec directory and start capturing debug for pvlsvr.

Keep SGMon running and try to start the Device & Media service. Post the output then.

I ran this capture. You can find the output in the attachment.

Was SGMon set to capture output before you tried to start the Device  & Media service ?

If yes, I would recommend to log a formal support case as there aren't any errors in this log.

Not all the services were stopped. So I stopped them, start the debug and started the services again. I attached the log again.

I don't see any specific errors related to the Device & Media service.

If running an AV on the server, set it to exclude from scanning the BE services and then try to restart all services.

If no AV, I would recommend to log a case.
