Multiple backups of system state on Hyper-v are running slow

Hiya

Where using Backup Exec 2010 R3 and we are backing up about 10 servers as part of a backup job.

The servers are a mix of 2008R2 and 2012R2 and several of them are Hyper-V guests.

We are not using the Hyper-V agent.

The backups are running at an acceptable speed until it comes to backing up the System State and this appears to be happening on the Hyper-V guests.

Some of the VMs have multiple Checkpoint(snapshots) will this affect the backup?

We have AOFO set to choose automatically and since we have not installed the Veritas VSS it will be using MS

Has anyone any ideas?

cheers Mike

Make sure that any AV installed isn't perhaps blocking access to the System State...

Its not being caused by AV as we have exclusions in place.

I have not run into this myself however have you taken a look at reregistering the VSS as described in TECH70486. Also, it is sometimes good to consider upgrading to the latest Service Pack or Patch for BE 2010

TECH70486 has been pulled a long time ago because re-registering VSS ddl's can potentially break machinew with Server 2008 and above.
