Multiple vendor OST in Backup Exec?

TR-BE2014

Does BE support OST from multple vendors? A 2016 post implies that it was supported, so I just want to make sure that's still true for BE 21. We've set up a new Dell Data Domain DD6400, but we need to keep the old Quest DR4100 around for a few more months to restore from if needed.

Thanks.

I would recommend you check the HCL (Hardware Compatibility List). For instance the HCL for BE22:

https://www.veritas.com/content/support/en_US/doc/BE_22_HCL -
Backup Exec 22 - 22.x Hardware and Cloud Storage Compatibility List (HCL)

refers to both the Quest DR4100 as well as the Data Domain DD6400 (and an awful lot else besides) For other versions of Backup Exec you can find links to all the different HCLs (as well as SCLs & The Admin Guides) here:

https://www.veritas.com/content/support/en_US/article.100040087 Backup Exec Compatibility List Home Page

In a nutshell I would say the answer to your question is Yes!

Thanks. I checked the HCL before purchasing. Just wanted to make sure both OST plugins could co-exist.

That's a good thought - as far as I know there shouldn't be any problems.

I've installed the DataDomain OST plugin on my servers and am editing each job to start using the DD storage. Testing one backup now and seems to be working fine. I have a bit more testing to do. If I see any problems, I'll post back.
