We have an EMC VNX and backup its file side data using the NDMP option of Backup Exec. Its been our best backup job - just solid green jobs for 3+ months. Until now...
Our VNX FLARE code was updated to the latest on the file side and block, and since then BE reports 0 bytes backed up. If you look at the job log, the NDMP log shows the bytes. Backups work, and even restores, just the BE job log shows 0 bytes. My file side of the VNX is running 7.1.74-5. As far as I know its the latest version from EMC, and the Symantec HCL shows file software version 7.1 supported.
Anyone else have this issue?

Hello Moltron1,
do you have all the Backup Exec Live Updates installed? http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH208600

Hello,
You might also want to refer to the following articles;
Backing up NDMP resources: http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO12755
During backup or restore of EMC NAS Servers, IBM Filers, or NetApp Filer Systems, the file and directory count seen in the Activity Monitor or the job log / job history is displayed as 0: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH49301

Imosla, I have SP4 installed. I don't think there are any other updates out there.
sidd3009, file history is enabled. There are no exceptions in this job log. I am not sure if there is a byte count while the job is running, but all of the job history shows there was 0 bytes backed up.

If you have antivirus running make sure the Backup Exec processes are excluded from the scan.
Also, make sure there aren't any other applications or utility jobs interfering with the Backup job. Check Windows Event Logs for errors during the backup job.

These are good suggestions, but I'm not sure how any AV software would cause BE to show 0 bytes backed up. The only thing that changed is that the SAN firmware / software has been updated.

hmm.... do you have plenty of space where the catalog is stored (default Backup exec directory location C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec) and try running a Backup Exec Database Repair see: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH67239

Well actually I did run out of space on C (caused service crashes). I then moved the catalogs off to another set of disks as they were huge. But that was not quite the same time when the NDMP backups started showing 0 bytes backed up.
Would you still suggest that I run the DB procedures in that TECH article? Also, does it still apply to BE 2012 SP4? The article lists up to BE 2010.

Same issue here with Backup exec 2012, after the VNX firmware upgrade.

Same issue here with Backup Exec 2014, after upgrade VNX to latest firmware

It looks like the firmware update is the cause of this, both EMC and NetApp have changed things in minor updates, in the past, that have caused issues for Backup Exec and it would appear that this may have happened again. Such chnages have often needed us to revisit certification against the new firmware.
I'd suggest logging a formal support case for us to look at it further.
