Hi,

We were running Backup exec 12.5 and that was working fine and then we had to upgrade to 2012 Vray and since then i am having problems.

I currently have 2 physical 2008 r2 servers which one is running the BE 2012.

I have 2 Physical 2008 R2 Core servers that houses about another 8 virtual servers running hyper-v and they are also 2008 servers.

My backup media i am using is a 12 Bay rack mounted Synology 2414 RP+

When i upgraded from the old backup exec 12.5 the new version used the old schema and recreated all of the jobs. Since then i have had problems with jobs as listed below

Final error: 0xe0001602 - Access is denied (SharePoint backup).
Final error category: Security Errors

Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource.

These are just some of the problems i am having and the backup system here has never worked correctly. Can i please have some advice on starting to install this product from scratch with a new install with instructions and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Above you can see what configuration i am running. I have tried to get a symantec specialist to assist but i dont know where i can find one near my area.

I also want to setup and configure system recovery.

1) If you are on a current maintenance contract, I would suggest that you upgrade to BE 2014 which may fix some of your problems straight-away and BE 2014 has a lot of features from BE 12.5 which is missing in BE 2010.

2) If you do not mind loosing your existing jobs, I would suggest that you uninstall the existing BE and start afresh, perhaps with BE 2014.

3) I would appear that you have multiple problems.  Seperate out the problems and post them as seperate discussions with as much details as possible so that it is easy for us to see what the problems are.

4) Have you tried logging support cases with Symantec for your problems. They would also be able to put ou in touch with someone knowledgeable close to your location.

Hi pkh,

Thankyou for your feedback. Currently we are unsure if we will move to 2014 just yet. Since we have upgraded to 2012 we have been unsure about his product.

I have contacted Symantec Technical support in Kuala Lumpur and organising a time for a technician to come on site and help us with our issues and also give us some guidance on what we should do. Eg upgrading to 2014 to better support our infrastructure, reinstall 2012 etc.

We have found this product very difficult since we have installed a Synology which does not have a BE agent that we can install on it.

The main reason BE 2014 and skipping BE 2012 is the recommended upgrade path is that the BE 2012 restriction of only one server per jobs causes problems for customers. BE 2012 brings back multiple server per job, however if you upgrade via 2012 you will have to recreate all your jobs to get back to the multi-server operation. Hence best practice is to upgrade to BE 2014 and avoid 2012.

Hi Colin,

Thankyou for the feedback. Do you have a step by step guide for new installations of 2012 or can let me know where i can get it from. At the moment i cant justify buying another symantec product if i cant trial 2012 and see that it is still a good choice for backup and restore software. We have always had Symantec backup software but since purchasing 2012 i have my doubts. If i can get this 2012 working and is proven to work then can look forward to 2014.

BE 2012 can only be downloaded if you have a serial number and then you can get it from the Symantec file connect website.

BE 2014 is available for 60 days evaluation as trialware from http://www.backupexec.com

I still recommend you avoid trying to use BE 2012 (especially as it will be 2 versions out of date in the next couple of weeks and is therefore unlikley to recoeve any more software updates (patches)

I am not aware of any stepby step guides covering what you ask.
