hi

I had sql 2008 and I deleted    Then I installed sql 2012

then

1. Launch BEUtility from the Backup Exec directory

2.All Media Servers > right-click the media server name > select New Backup Exec Database Location.

3. Click " Yes" on The Remote Registry Service pop-up message if displayed.

4. Select or manually enter servername\instancename in the Destination SQL Server instance and click OK
After following the steps, the following error message appears

New Backup Exec Database Location
Error: Failed registry read on server:MSSQLSERVER.
Operation to change location of Backup Exec database to SQL Server instance SYMANTEC-TW ended with errors.

while the earlier sql 2008 instance was up, then you could have used beutility

Now since the above source instance is not available, you will need to do the following

1) attach BEDB_dat.mdf and BEDB_log.ldf from BE Install Path\Data in the new instance where you want to host the
backup exec database.

2) Then since the registry will have info about the old sql instance for BE, update them to new. For that refer below article.

Starting SQL service on server: SYMANTEC-TW : MSSQL$BKUPEXEC
Detaching database BEDB from server SYMANTEC-TW.
Stopping SQL service on server: SYMANTEC-TW : MSSQL$BKUPEXEC
Starting SQL service on server: SYMANTEC-TW : MSSQLSERVER
Failed to attach database BEDB to server SYMANTEC-TW.
Operation to change location of Backup Exec database to SQL Server instance SYMANTEC-TW ended with errors.
