Notes Database Restores using Transaction Logging

Hi

I've been trawling the forums, and I still havent confirmed there is a solution to my problem.

Currently we have...

Backup Exec 2010 with Domino Agent, Domino 8.5.2 Servers

We run weekly full backups at the weekend, and nightly differential backups.

Domino is configured for Transaction Logging using Archive style.

I have confirmed that i can do the following :

Restore a Notes database to an alternative location from the full backup.

Restore a Notes databases using Point In Time, overwriting the current live database.

My problem (thanks for bearing with me) is that on occasion we need to restore the an entire database from a mid-week backup , without replacing the origional, to allow us to inspect the data etc.

Is this possible without having to resort to doing nightly full backups again and moving away from Differential backups with Transaction Logging ?

Or is there another way to approach this..

Many Thanks.

Alan

Hi Alan,

Unfortunately, any redirected restore of a Domino database becomes a file restore and will only restore the last full without rolling in any transactions.  The only way to do the API restore where point in time is possible is a direct restore which becomes complicated if you only want to temporarily go back to that point in time then return to the present.

Please help -

I am really struggling with restoring point in time
lotus domino mail files.
I currently have symantec backup exec 12.5 with Lotus Domino server 8.5.

I have setup full and incremental backups but have come to the point where I
desperately need to restore a mail file. I have transaction log enabled with
archive log style on my lotus domino server but whenever I attempt to restore
from a database from the previous full backup it won't restore to the point
in time that I have set.

I have set a particular point in time but keeps restoring the database from
the full backup....
I'm not sure if the transaction logs are being created properly or that I am
missing something completely. When the incremental backups are taking place
they seem to backup a file of approx 67,000kb which doesn't seem alot when we
have approx 250 mailboxes....

Once I have restored the file the job says completed successfully and there
are no sign of any errors.

Either the transaction logs are not being created as they should or that
backup exec can not find them when trying to restore???
