OFO: initialization failure using VSS

Getting error on OFO: Initialization failure on: "\\server\shadow?copy?components". Adnvanced open file option used: Microsoft volume shadow copy service (vss). VSS snapshot error. unexpected provider error. Check event log for more details.

I've completely uninstalled the agent, removed it all manually from the registry, restarted the server, reinstalled the client and rebooted again. I still get the same VSS error and my results of running the list writer command:

Here is the error in event viewer:

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Error calling a routine on the Shadow Copy Provider {b5946137-7b9f-4925-af80-51abd60b20d5}. Routine details Cannot ask provider {b5946137-7b9f-4925-af80-51abd60b20d5} if volume is supported. .


Checked:
1. Verified VSS is started on target machine.

2. Verified RAWS is installed and started on target machine.

3. Verified AOFO is installed and started on target machine.

4. Verified Network Connectivity outside the Backup Exec program


This all worked fine until we had to do a repair install of server 2003 after a RAID crash. Everything worked fine except RAID creation through Dell Open Manage Server Administrator and the Shadow Copy tab on both C: and D: RAID volumes reads:

Initialization failed.

Error 0x8004232304: The Volume shadow copy provider is not registered in the system.

I've done everything that has been asked and I've researched this extensively. I've installed the new Microsoft patch for VSS as well but to no avail. Please help.

Hello,

Generally this error occurs when protecting Windows 2003 system using open file option. Perform the following steps to isolate cause of the issue:

1.) Go to Job setup > select the problem backup job and double click on it > go to selections tab, select "shadow copy components" option and select only "system state"

2.) Click on Advanced open file option > Check "Use Advanced open file option" and select "Automatically select open file technology" option

3.) Run this backup job and verify the result.
