One last question before go live!

This will be my last question before go live.

In BE2012 if I careate a job set to tape for a server group and set them to start at say 8pm...will they all start at the same time and fail or must I enter each job for each server and stagger the start times?

Thank you again to everyone for your help

Hi,

You might want to read 2 good articles on backing up multiple servers. Another TA, pkh, wrote them:

Thanks!

Ok I see.

So it would seem that I could gain a little by backing upto hard disk then to tape during the day right?

If you configure your backup jobs to tape to run off at the same time, one job will start and the other jobs will queue up until the first job finishes.  Then another job will run, and so on.

Thanks! Thats what I was hoping for!

If the jobs queue till the running job is done that would be ideal!

When you are backing up to tape, the sequence of the jobs is important.  Normally, the first job will overwrite the tape and the rest will append to it.  You cannot have the first few jobs appending to the tape and then a job overwriting it.

So I should still stagger them. I mean I dont want to go to use this data and have it be all messed up or missing stuff!

how "important" is the verify portion? It takes another 2 hours to run on jobs 300gb. Its probably less of a concern with going to disc but to tape is probably super improtant huh?

IM only asking because we are really putting the squeeze on the time window to do back ups.

If I am not mistaken, when you don't do the verify and your restore fails, the blame will always be a bad backup.  You can schedule the verify to run later.  The verify does not assess the resource so you can run it during the day.
