I have BE2010R2 running on a Windows Server 2008R2 Media Server and I need to backup an Oracle database running on AIX6; what is my best way of going about this? I'm guessing there's an agent I can buy, but not sure exactly what I need; the database must remain available 24/7.
thanks

Can you please provide the version of Oracle you need to backup?

Hi Laurie,
Thanks for getting back to me; it's Oracle 11gR2 (11.2.0.2.0).

Damn... What is my best option then for backing up the database? The AIX machine has a DAT drive onboard.

Calum,
Unfortunately that information is correct, Backup Exec does not support backing up any AIX machines. You may want to refer to another thread found at the following link:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/symantec-backupexec-and-aix
However, the information provided there is also not a solution for backing up the Oracle database that you need.

The referenced discussion is not relevant because it is for BE 2012 and the user is using BE 2010. However, AIX has not been supported since BE 2010.

A different tack; as I have a DAT drive in my AIX server, what would be my options for running a local backup of the Oracle database?
