Overwritable media

BUE keeps telling me that media is write-protected, when it isn't. The tab on the tape is in the "write" position, the media folder is set to overwriteable, overwrite protection is set to "none". I can even move the tape into the "scratch media" folder and the back up job says it is write-protected. Viewing the device tab and showing the slots the media shows up as overwriteable. Everything within BUE is showing the media is writeable, but when the job runs, it says otherwise. What is going on? Is BUE suffering from a schizophrenia? A multiple personality disorder?
