PST's corrupted by backup/restore

Hi all,

Our backup runs over 2 tapes, thus we receive compare errors on pst files when users have them opened when this runs. Although the pst's are backuped when not openend.

The log mentions 'file...corrupted..

Our server now crashed. I was able to restore everything, including the pst files. Now they are all corrupted! When openening a pst file with wordpad it reads 'This is padding!!'

I guess I lost all of them...

If you are trying to backup files that are open, such as PST files, then the Advanced Open File Option might be beneficial.
For the files you have restored, you can get some utilities to recover data from corrupted PST files. A quick search on Google should reveal plenty. PST file corruption is not limited to failed backups and restores!

Tried various pst recovery tools.

The pst file just has thousands of This is padding!!
lines in it.
So no chance in recovering that.

I'am just surprised that a pst file backed up at 4.20 am, when nobody is in the office, gets a bad compare at 8.05 am is marked 'corrupted' and then is not properly on tape.
I have more then 10 of these, so it's no just 1 file.
