Environment :
Windows Server 2008 - Non domain controller.
Exchange Server 2010.
Backup Exec 2012.
I have followed the instructions for scenario four found at http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH130255#Exchange_Agent however I'm still unable to pass Credential test for our Microsoft Information Store\Mailbox Database <random number>, although I am able to pass Credential tests for Microsoft Information Store\Public Folder Database <random number>.
In backup select I've selected the whole server and "Simplified Disaster Recovery" is On and highlighted in green.
If I try and expand Microsoft Information Store\Mailbox Database <random number> in the selection list I receive the following error :
===SEO===
Browser Failure : Failure to browse 'Mailbox Database <random number>'. Backup Exec could not backup the Exchange database because it could not find a healthy copy of the database.

Backup attempts fail with the following error.

Is Backup Exec direclty installed on the Exchange Server?
If not try a reinstall of the Remote Agent.
If yes try a repair install of Backup Exec.

Have you checked this TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH125261

Thanks for your reply Kiran.
I hadn't seen TECH125261, however I had read elsewhere that the Backup Exec user required the "Organization Management" role and followed alterative instructions to set that up.
In "Active Directory Users and Computers" I navigated to domain.local -> Microsoft Exchange Security Groups -> Organization Management and added the Backup Exec user to the group.
I believe the end result is the same as following the instructions in TECH125261 because when I've just followed those instructions I found that my Backup Exec user was already listed.

About Backing Up Exchange 2007/2010 ServersTo support individual mailbox message and folder restore from Information Store backups you must do the following:- For Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, download and install the Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects package version 06.05.7888 or later on the Exchange 2007 server. The package can be found on the Microsoft Web site.- If you are backing up a server running Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, that server must be running either Microsoft Windows 2008 SP2 or a Microsoft Window Server 2008 R2 x64.To back up Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010, you must install the corresponding version of Microsoft Exchange Server Management Tools on the Backup Exec Server. You can install the Microsoft Exchange Server Management Tools during a custom installation of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010.

As you have BE on the Exchange server, it might be that you are running into something related to this

Hi Colin,
The article you refer to seems to be related to restoring and my issue is backing up. However in desperation I've followed the instructions in the article without success. :(

Hi, I am also having exactly the same problem.
BE agent has been checked, permissions checked but still no luck getting the Credential test to work for the Information Store. I have been through numerous KB articles, installed Exchange management tools on the BE server.
This is kind of critical, will lodge a support ticket.

SP1a considered during your troubleshooting?

SP1a is already installed.

OK, spoke to technical support. We are using a Database Availability Group. Apparently in this case, the DAG should be backed up seperately, (I can confirm this works) and not to worry about the Information Store being backed up with the actual server in question. ie The IS has been seperated out due to the existence of the DAG.
The agent is smart enough to see the existence of the DAG and know which server is active or passive etc.
I am unsure if the OP is in the same boat as to whether they have a DAG or not?

I was rather stumped with the E0000391 problem when trying to backup Exchange 2010.
Followed all the solutions:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/information-store-shows-0kb-cant-backup-exchange-2010-be-2010-r2
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH140090
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH126587
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH137852
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH180429
Still had no luck.
My setup was Server 2008 SP1 64bit, Exchange 2010, Backup Exec R3 fully upto date
Solution I found after doing all the above is to right click the job and do Test Run before running the job then when you run the job no more E0000391. If the job is changed to backup to a different medium the E0000391 will come back and the Test Run must be run again to get rid of the E0000391 error.
