Point-in-time restore means restoring your databases to a certain point in time. For example, you backup your SQL database at 0100 hrs. At 1600 hrs, your users discover that they have made some mistakes siince 1500. You can restore the database from your backup. This means that restored database is at the state it is at at 0100 hrs and this means that your users would have to re-enter all their transactions since that time.
Using your database backup plus the SQL database log, you can restore the database to the state it is at at 1500 hrs and save your users tons of work. Restoring to 1500 hrs is point-in-time restore.
Point-in-time restore is possible with SQL databases with transaction logging and likewise Domino databases with transaction logging.

Hi Dishant,
Windows System restore you may be knowing.
Point Intime Restores also works just like the same as Windows System Restore.
Any harmful changes made to your system can be undone by restoring the system to an earlier time.
With SQL it is very useful.
/* EDIT
This non-sym article may explain you better about the concept.

When you purchase BackupExec, you get CPS (Continuous Protection Server) which was created to be able to give you a fantastic RPO of minutes from within your failure.
CPS was designed for file servers, Exchange and SQL, nothing else that I'm aware of? But it'll capture transaction logs in near real-time so that you can replay those logs up to the point of failure.
