We have a powervault 110T Ultrium LTO3 tape drive. When I perform an inventory on this tape drive I get the following error message"e00081d9 - The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding".
Please assist.

What is the version of Backup Exec. See if does this technote help you -

Also you could try to Pause/Unpause the Server from the Devices tab (not applicable if you are using BE 2012)

BE services was running but I restarted it just incase some services has stooped running.
Pause/Unpause the Server from the Devices tab.
Still having the same problem.

Is it one particular tape or do you get this problem for all your tapes?
Run the Dell diagnostics utility against the tape drive. Make sure that you select the write test and have stopped all the BE services beforehand.

...and the assumption is that your media server is fully patched?
