Problem cannot detect media in Storageloader LTO4 slots

jempol
Level 2

Hello, I am having problem setting up Tanberg Storageloader LTO4 1U with BES 12.5. It won't detect media in the Robotic library slots. System is Dell 2950 with Windows Standard 2003 Server R2, using Symantec driver for Storageloader connected to Adaptec 29320ALP-R. Restarting BES service and reinstalling tape backup driver using tapeinst.exe is not helping at all, also I got message "No idle devices are available" when running inventory job.

See detail below:

Medium Changers - Unknown Medium Changer
Driver Provider: Microsoft
driver tpfilter.sys driver date 10/1/2002 ver 5.2.3790.0
manufacturer GenChanger Bus Number 0, Target ID 2, LUN 1

Tape drivers - HP Ultrium 4-SCSI SCSI Sequential Device
Driver Provider: Symantec Corporation
driver halfinch.sys, tpfilter.sys driver date 1/23/2008 ver 5.1
manufacturer HP Bus Number 0, Target ID 2, LUN 0

I see error message in Adamm.log

This looks wrong:

[0500] 12/10/08 10:23:54.318 DeviceIo: Discover: serialize mode_sense FAILED, lib=(0,0,1), serial="AA36KA010435"

which leads to this:

Number Of Slots         0

that should 8 or 16 or something useful

it also appears that BE thinks there are no tape drives in that library (there is chunk missing from your log file).  I am assuming that the duplicate libraries at the bottom of the log may be a cut/paste error?

I would focus on SCSI troubleshooting.  Make sure your HBA drivers and firmware are the latest.  Mkae sure there are no SCSI errors in the Windows event logs.  Make sure your  library is updated to the latest firmware, I see 3.42 on the Tandberg web site.

Thanks for your reply Larry. It has 8 slots but shows only 0 slots in the robotic library. Not sure why the duplicate library MediumChanger0 shows twice in diagnostic log. I can move the tape from Storageloader web management manually to tape drive and BES will recognize it if I do inventory job for standalone device.

I will try play around with SCSI adapter today.

Really appreciate your input.
