Problem w/11d and 12 service crashing after MS security updates

4/6/2008 Microsoft updates to .net 2 sp1 caused our be server service to crash.

Using Windows Install Clean-up detected a partially installed .net 2 SP1.  Don't know why it took so long (months?) for this glitch to surface, but it only occurred after the 4/6/2008 ms patch, and only affected the BE service.

Just thought I'd share in case anyone else runs into this...

I was getting this error:

Backup Exec for Windows UI has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience

Here is what I did to get it to work.

Download .Net removal tool at

•http://blogs.msdn.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer-Components-PostAttachments/00-08-90-44-93/dotnetfx_5F00_cleanup_5F00_tool.zip

Remove .net 2.0

Restart Computer

Download .Net Installation File

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aa...

Install .Net 2.0 and Patch using windows update

Restart

Test backup Exec Finally opens

Go to Sleep
