Problems backing up OS X machine

Hi,

I recently encountered a problem with one of our backup jobs. If it succeeds it usually backs up 3,5 TB od data from an OS X server that has a couple of iSCSI shares connected to it. Two weeks ago this full backup failed after backing up 1,34TB of data with this error:

Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe000ff11 - A communications failure has occurred with a Linux or Unix resource.
Final error category: Resource Errors

And the next days daily backup failed with this error:

Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe000ff11 - A communications failure has occurred with a Linux or Unix resource.
Final error category: Resource Errors

I checked on the server and it turned out that the agent was not running, I tried to restart it, but it did not start, so I reinstalled it and run a test backup, which worked. I thought it was a one time thing and left it like that for this week. This week the backup failed again, this time after backing up 1,36TB which seems to close to last weeks 1,34TB to be an accident. It failed with the same error and the agent is again not responding.

I googled the error of course and found this:

https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH195179.html

But I can't find the  'Back up contents of soft-linked directories' option.

All I see is this:

and this:

Do you guys have any ideas what could be causing this? And where do I find  'Back up contents of soft-linked directories' option? Did the name of it change? I am using BE 2014.

Thanks in advance.

Check the SCL below to ensure

Check the SCL below to ensure that your version of OSX is supported http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH217478 What you are looking for is the option to follow symbolic links. Edit your job and click on files/folders on the left-hand side

Thanks for the quick

Thanks for the quick answer.

We are using 10.6.8 so it is still supported. The second screenshot I posted in my first post is the one you asked about, symbolic links option is NOT checked.

Thanks, that actually sounds

Thanks, that actually sounds plausible, because 3 weeks ago the backup ran fine, and we did not really change anything on BE end, but ACL's could change in the meantime. And it makes sense that it failed more or less in the same spot, on a specific file.

The only problem is that it doesn't tell me on which file it failed on. Or does it? Can I find this information somewhere?

Cheers

Enabling SGMon debugging on

Enabling SGMon debugging on the BE server and the remote server will help you narrow down the cause of failure.

Thanks VJware! I will try to

Thanks VJware! I will try to find the culprit, but for now I installed 2010 R3 agent and it backed up fine over the weekend.
