Question about BE 2010 to backup VMWARE vms using ESX 4 server

beeloo
Not applicable
Hi,

I want to know what is the necessary component if I want to backup vms from ESX 4 server using Backup Exec 2010?

Below are what I'm thinking of:

1) VVI agent
2) Vmware data recovery (for backup)
3) Vmware convertor (for restore)

Anything else?

Please advise.

Thanks
Ricky

Hi there,

Not sure why you would need VMware converter for restores.
From a Backup Exec-side of things, you would need the AVVI agent, and licenses for any additional databases like Exchange, SQL etc.
From there, you can browse to your Virtual Center server, and select full backups of your VMs, where you will be able to restore from as well.

Laters!

I backup VmWare 4 (on a test setup admitedly) and the only software form Vmware I have installed is the vSphere Client - but that isn't there for backups it is just there for ease of admin /access to the ESX systems from the backup server.

I have yet to mess around with a restore but don't expect to need anything installed for that either.

So Backup Exec 2010 + AVVI/Vmware agent should be enough
