Question about backing up System State and Volume and Shadow Copy Components on a VMWare VM

We just got Backup Exec 12.5 two weeks ago and are currently testing it and a question has come up regarding VMWare backups.  Can you restore system state and/or Shadow Copy components using the Granular Restore Technology from your VM backup or do you need to do a separate backup for those components.

GRT-enabled jobs have the following restrictions:

  • You can run only full backups for GRT-enabled jobs.

  • You can recover only individual items to virtual machines that run a Windows operating system.

To protect the system and backup the system state and shadow copy content, you would need to change the backup strategy.

You need to install the RAWS inside and backup the VM as physical server backup rather then VM backup using AVVI.
