Question regarding media sets

noodles
Level 4
Hi,

there is one thing that is not completely clear to me:
In our case, we have different jobs and different media sets assigned.

Our goal is that for a specific job BE only takes the tapes that are in the assigned media set.
But instead of that BE (10d) only looks for rewritable / appendable tapes and sometimes BE takes tapes from a different media set assigned to different job.

Is there a possibility that I can force BE for a job to use only the tapes that are in the assigned media set?

Thanks in advance
/Stefan

If you are using a loader, you can set up partitions (of one or more slots as needed), so that BackupExec will only use tapes in the specified slots

Hi,

It is possible to manage it with a standalone drive as well.

You need to configure the Append and Overwrite Protection periods properly.

Also take care that in "tools" > "options" > "media management"-"Overwrite scratch media before overwriting recyclable media" is selected.

Also make sure that the Overwrite Proetction Level is set to "Partial".

When you have a stand-alone drive, you are responsible for loading the correct tape.

If the tape tape has passed it's OPP, then ANY job can write to it. If it has not passed the OPP it cannot be overwritten at all (unless, of course, you move it to the scratch set)

If the loaded tape tape is not in the same media set, you cannot append, even if the APP has not been passed.

The option to use Overwriteable media in the target media set before scratch media does no good, since BackupExec can only see the one tape volume.
